Lincoln County Farm Tour set for Aug. 3

Are you interested in learning about a real dairy farm? Participating in the Lincoln County Dairy Farm Tour will allow you to spend time with a full-time dairy farmer, learn about the latest technologies in farming including the use of robotics, solar power for energy and modern animal care.

The Lincoln County Farm Bureau is hosting a tour of several Lincoln County Dairy Farms on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The tour will depart by bus from River Valley Bank parking area in Merrill and is open to all the public as well as those working in the agriculture field. Tickets are on sale at River Valley Bank for a suggested donation of $5 per ticket. Advance reservations are required as seating is limited.

Participants will visit the Breitenmoser Dairy Farm, where solar provides a portion of the power. This modern dairy is set up for cow comfort, and wow, what a view those cows have.

The second dairy we will visit is the Brad Juedes Dairy, where the first fully robotic milking operation in Lincoln County is located. We will view the contented cows who decide when they want to be milked, and take themselves to the milking parlor.  Plenty of time will be available for questions about how robotics is helping both the cows and the farmer.

Free snacks related to dairy will be available at every stop.

This tour is for older children and adults. Some may be interested in learning more about how farming is changing. Others may be interested in new technologies being used in modern dairy operations. Come dressed for the barn, with sturdy boots or shoes and clothing suitable for outdoors. Standing for a period of time is expected on this tour.

Only 45 tickets will be sold. Innovations in farming are happening at a rapid pace. Enjoy this unique, fun learning opportunity and be prepared to be amazed. For further information, call tour coordinator, Laurie Groskopf 715-453-6301 or 715-612-2685.
