talk about a windy 4th of July evening....in keeping with tradition, some friends and I watched the fireworks monday night from the roof of the hyryder building.....a couple times we got nailed with burnt out pellets, and once a big chunk of one of the shells landed near us. no lie. impressive show though.

Did you have permission to be on the roof of the Hyryder building? It seems to me that being in that location would be a no brainer as far as the possibility of being hit by fall out!! Sure missed the 4th in Tomahawk this year!!!

Fireworks were great !!! Still wish the THS band would learn to march and play music at the same time! All the other bands made them look really bad!! Might it be time for a new band director ???

Some things will never change Old Scout!! Administration needs to take the bull by the horns and change the leadership in that department. THS could be much stronger instrumentally if that department was revamped. I'm still sad to have missed the 4th in Tomahawk, 2 years running. I've already told my husband we'll be "home" for the 4th next year.

to be quite honest, i don't blame the band director....i did band for 3 years in highschool, and for the most part alot of the kids in band only took it for the sake of having a credit. if there was a steady group in the marching band, and they were all dedicated to practicing and looking good, much more progress would be made. on mr. madaj's behalf, you cant really force people to show up for hours and hours of marching band practice, especially during the summer months.

Sorry JayOMF, if leadership and caring were present the marching band would be much better. Spend a little more time before school is out and don't include the in coming freshman for the 4th. Smaller numbers would be better than a large group that looks as they do. Granted kids don't like to go to band practice in the summer, however if leadership was someone that made it fun and cared, the kids would come. Attitude starts from the top down.

Back in '98 when the boys basketball team were regional champs for the first time since '81 a community pep rally was planned. Part of that pep rally was to be the pep band. This pep rally was held in the evening. Organizers were told, at the last minute, that the band would not be playing due to lack of interest by the kids, however a tape of pep band music was being sent. A pep rally without a pep band, yee ha!!! Organizers quickly made several phone calls, a pep band was organized, all sections were more than covered under student direction. They sounded great. Tell me who had the lack of interest. Of course such after hours or non scheduled events aren't in a teacher's contract, so why bother.

I truly believe Tomahawk could have a better instrumental music department if that leadership role changed.

I'm guessing the director puts in about as much effort towards the band as he did the "golf team". I was on the team for part of one year. His "practices" were showing up, send the kids out to play, and then he left. That's some pretty impressive coaching let me tell ya!

Funny, I dropped both band and golf pretty quickly!
