Internet Addiction: Ruining Lives?

Internet Addiction: Ruining Lives?

I used to be really BAD. Back when I got my very first computer and got on the internet for the first time, I got SO addicted!
Thankfully, I'm not like that anymore ;)
Honestly though, I had become a walking zombie, totally sleep deprived. I lost my job, I almost lost my relationship with my sister, and I used to fall asleep in the middle of my childrens' choir concerts and stuff.
I do still enjoy being online, but nowhere near to the extreme I once did. I don't know if I got cured or I just got too old to be able to stay up all night, LOL.
Have any of you had any experience with internet addiction, either yourself or a loved one?

Hello, my name is JFlosum, and I'm Internet junkie. I'd join a 10-steps program but only if it is online.

Tie to Tomahawk: Lived in Tomahawk -- still pay Taxes in Lincoln County and TSD.
I met a great woman online. She is now my wife.. Does that make me an internet junkie?

I don't think getting married makes anyone an internet junkie. I think being in a bad marriage might cause someone to become an internet junkie, and becoming an internet junkie can cause a good marriage to go bad.

Medic, internet junkies have a preoccupation in which the Internet becomes "irresistible."
Using the Internet for longer periods than planned. "They say they'll be off in an hour, but three hours later they're still at it.
This preoccupation causes significant problems in relationships, work, or other important areas of functioning.
They try to cut back but can't.
They have excessive thoughts about it.
They get a sense of tension or arousal before doing it, and get pleasure afterward -- much as kleptomaniacs feel after lifting something.
Their other responsibilities, such as paying the bills, get neglected.

Medic, only you (and perhaps your wife or other people who are closest to you) can answer the question of whether or not you are an internet junkie.

So tell us your love story, Medic. Did you meet on Yahoo personals or what?
I love hearing about online dating success stories.
