Difference was made …

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Wed Sep 12, 2007 3:19 pm

An editorial in the Sept. 11 Tomahawk Leader:

No one had any idea what to expect. But the Make A Difference Group’s vision of a cleaner Tomahawk certainly began to take shape Saturday as vehicles lined up to drop off old sofas, desks, windows, mattresses and similar bulky items that definitely were cluttering up basements and garages, and could have been become menacing eyesores in someone’s backyard.
Local Boy Scouts even provided curbside pickup service for a small donation.

A corresponding electronics drop-off by the Oneida County Solid Waste Department proved to be an added bonus, offering a handy collection point for defunct computers, TVs and other once-high tech gadgets.

Additional items were referred to Tomahawk Iron and Metal, which offered extended hours that day.

The cleanup effort was so successful that the Difference Group’s huge dumpster was overflowing by 11 a.m., only an hour into the four-hour collection. Special arrangements were made for a second dumpster on Monday and items were temporarily lined up along the outside of the City Garage.

Thanks, Make A Difference Group volunteers for spearheading the undertaking and to those who responded. The goal is to make a positive difference in the appearance of the streets and alleyways that surround the beautiful city of Tomahawk. We’re certain an initial dent has been made and know plans are already in the works to make this an annual event.

In the coming weeks, the city will begin its new citation program for unsightly yards and many will become even more aware of the need to do some cleaning. We’ll be providing the names and locations of places to discard old vehicles, refrigerators and large furniture items. Let’s voluntarily get rid of those eyesores and show off our community pride.

There is also asite in lincoln county and around the USA that you can post your unwanted items for free for those people who are looking for items that would normally go to the landfills.........go to freecycle.org
thanks!
