A letter in the Feb. 26 Tomahawk Leader:
I want to thank the residents and businesses and snow removal crews in Tomahawk for helping the United States Postal Service deliver mail as close to our regular schedule as possible during these recent winter storms. Snow and ice not only make roads impassable, it also prevents entry to mailboxes. Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who helped clear path to the mailbox, including removing snow and ice from steps, porches, walkways and street approaches. This helped prevent injuries to our carriers and helped us maintain consistent delivery.
Please know our carriers are dedicated to providing you with prompt, accurate mail delivery – even during extreme weather conditions. Mountains of snow in front of mailboxes play havoc with mail delivery. When facing these hazardous conditions, sometimes your mail carrier cannot safely deliver your mail. When this happens, your carrier will bring your mail back to the Post Office and attempt to deliver the next business day.
Thank you for helping our letter carriers safely reach their appointed rounds during extreme weather conditions. We truly appreciate the efforts of our customers and local snow removal crews as they work to clear roadways and provide a safe approach to the mailbox.
