Tie to Tomahawk: Grew up in Tomahawk in the 50s and early 60s, left after High School in '64
Yup, it seems to be true. USAToday reports it...along with other early editions.

Also, just Google 'brett favre retire' and you'll get lots of hits.

He had a great run. Green Bay, and Wisconsin, should be proud. Not too many towns can brag about such great quarterbacks...Brett and Bart.

I'm sad about his retirement but glad he got out while he's still 'young', strong, and healthy.

Thankful to be alive and healthy. Proud to call Tomahawk my hometown.

So many mixed feelings for so many of us in Wisconsin. Of course we are saddened. No one has ever been, or will ever be, as fun to watch. Here was a grown man, a professional athlete, playing with the joy and enthusiasm of a ten-year-old. I have two children - ages 17 and 11 - who don't know the game of football or the Packers without Brett Favre. I am so grateful I was able to take them to a game a few years ago. Although it was only a preseason game, we were able to watch Brett play, and we loved every minute of it.

But I am also extremely happy for him. He was able to leave on his own terms and in his own time. No career-ending injury or scandel. He has had an incredible ride, and how many professional football players can come close to his longevity? He was able to bring a high level of play back to Green Bay, and for that we will always be thankful. It's now time for him to "ride off into the sunset" and enjoy his family, hunting, fishing, golf, and whatever else he chooses.

Thanks, Brett, and God Bless! :?
