A letter in the Dec. 9 Tomahawk Leader:
PCA-Tomahawk Mill has a charity club. Throughout the year, the Tomahawk Mill Charity Club (TMCC) has cookouts and raffles with all proceeds going to various charities. Several employees also donated items for the raffles. Bruce Ridley, our mill manager, agreed to have the mill buy all the food, and the TMCC does the setup, cooking, serving and cleanup.
The TMCC has 19 members, just the right size for this huge undertaking. In 2008 we had 14 cookouts with each member of the team donating their time. In addition some members donated baked goods that were also sold. Of course we all have a job here too, so it is impossible to have everyone available for every cookout. With 19 members, and the help of our awesome yard crew, we always have enough help.
Members of the TMCC include: Char Andreachi, Kim Bartz, Donna Bucks, Lois Copiskey, Kelly Derleth, Kathy Galloy, Roxanne Garrou, Terry Higgins, Gail Hilgendorf, Patti Lemke, Tammy Lundberg, Gina Martin, Sandy Olsen, Jessica Patterson, Karen Schiltz, Kathy Schmit, Susie Schoone, Michele Slaga and Jil Strassman.
This year we raised a whopping $15,689 for various area charities. The team members choose the charities at the beginning of the year and after each cookout, a check is sent to the charity selected for that cookout. Charities receiving donations from TMCC this year include: Tomahawk Salvation Army, Tomahawk Special Olympics, Kinship of Tomahawk, Kahle Baseball Complex, Kippenberg Creek Kids, Tomahawk Child Care, Camp American Legion-Lake Tomahawk, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Tomahawk Food Pantry, Lincoln County Humane Society, Nokomis Food Pantry, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, HAVEN, Inc., St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House-Marshfield.
On behalf of the Tomahawk Mill Charity Club and the Tomahawk Mill, Merry Christmas to all and best wishes for a happy and prosperous new year.
