Tie to Tomahawk: planning to move there later this year
Hi all...
I would like to know what wireless internet service is available for the Tomahawk area, beside Comcast that is. (I despise comcast..lol) Also for phone and cable.

I hope to be moving up there mid-september this year.

Charter Communication offers "the bundle" high speed or wireless internet, phone service & cable. Solarus is also available to select areas. Verizon offers services also. Dish tv is available here too.

If I wasn't contracted in with Verizon, which we get our high speed DSL internet, phone hard-line and Direct TV Channels (200)I would be looking for a cheaper alternative. We have to keep the hardline to get the package from Verizon which includes the DSL. If we were to break off from them they got us tied to a 2 year contact with Direct TV. It's true we could get different internet DSL and really wouldn't need the hard-line. But if we had to keep our committment with Direct we'd be paying just for Direct alone as much as we pay for the whole package. Stuck, but we make it work. As an alternative I would be seriously looking at the "Vonage" package. There are many people up this way that use them at great savings. Seems to me that is the most economical alternative.

I did the Vonage thing for awhile. It didn't take long to decide I didn't use my home phone anyway, no more home phone for me. Depending where you're living, DSL and cable modems might not be an option. Alltel offers internet via cellular that works in some of the rural areas too. Not great but better than dialup. To be honest, you'll need to wait until you're here, know where you're living and decide what service you want then.

In a lot of the rural areas you won't get much of any kind of internet service or cable TV. I ended up putting in a dish for both Dish network and Hughes net dish for the internet. Not quite as fast as DSL but a whole lot better than dial up.

Well I am hoping to find a place in town so hopefully shouldn't encounter too many problems.
