Proposal to rescind federal regulation …

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Sat Apr 11, 2009 2:17 pm

A letter in the April 7, 2009, Tomahawk Leader:

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is inviting public comment on a proposal to rescind an important December 2008 federal regulation. The 2008 regulation enforces three federal laws protecting the conscience rights of health care providers. If these laws are rescinded, doctors and hospitals would be required to perform procedures that violate their religious beliefs. Many Catholic hospitals are threatening to close, rather than comply with this unconstitutional discrimination against medical professionals with moral objections to abortion.

Doctors should be allowed to refuse any procedure that violates their consciences. The December regulation should be retained. The public may submit comments about this until April 9 at the following web site:
The rescission proposal was published in the Federal Register on March 10. If you have not yet submitted your views, please visit the NCHLA Grassroots Action Center. An Action Alert provides more information on this issue and allows you to send an e-mail message to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For more background information, see:
