Jeff, every time you do that "tilt" thing it makes me laugh. You know with this message board, all you have are names with no faces to go with them. So you have to imagine, or more like you get this image of a person. So when you do the "tilt", I see this guy standing there with this look of bewilderment on his face, like he doesn't know what the heck is going on. You portray a very funny look there. Tilt.

Gun lobby endangers population with junk science promoting concealed weapons

Editor: It is now crystal clear that the Wisconsin gun lobby has been using junk science to promote concealed weapons. Here's an example of how this intellectual fraud developed:

First, start with the legitimate findings of the National Academy of Sciences. This group sets the gold standard for scientific integrity in America. They carefully analyzed all research related to concealed weapons and concluded their final report (Firearms & Violence, 2005) by saying, "....the committee concludes that with the current evidence it is not possible to determine that there is a causal link between the passage of right-to-carry laws and crime rates."

Next, observe the National Rifle Association's deception. Instead of candidly informing their members of the hugely important National Academy of Sciences study they ignore it and substitute bogus statistics that strongly imply causation between concealed weapons and crime reduction. This is from their Right-to-Carry 2005 fact sheet, "Right-to-carry states have lower violent crime rates, on average: 24 percent lower total violent crime, 22 percent lower murder, 37 percent lower robbery, and 20 percent lower aggravated assault." This is blatantly misleading. They are counting on the public not understanding the difference between correlation and causation.

Finally, watch the total shredding of scientific truth by our own Republicans here in Wisconsin. This is what Senator Dave Zien (R-Wheaton) and Assemblyman Scott Gunderson (R-Waterford), co-authors of the concealed carry bill, have to say, "The statistics have shown that concealed carry laws have worked effectively to help lower violent crime rates by an average of 24 percent." (http://www.wisconsinconcealedcarry.com). As you can see, Zien and Gunderson are not content to merely imply causation as the NRA does. They take falsification to a new level by stating categorically that concealed carry laws actually lower crime rates.

And that's how the gun lobby corrupts science and endangers us all.
