Political calls intrude

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Tue Oct 05, 2010 6:09 pm

A Letter to the Editor in the Oct. 5, 2010, Tomahawk Leader

Dear Readers:

I, as many others, am very tired of all the recorded ads polluting our phones with nothing but negative political messages. These calls are received at the most inopportune times, at dinner or evening leisure times. I received one on Sept. 20 at 12:05 a.m. The recording started by saying, “Hi, I am a steel worker, Mike Olin,” and I hung up. I wish I knew who he was promoting. A call at that hour is frightening…
I wish we were able to include these calls in our No Call List! I for one, will not vote for any of these politicians. They would be better served conducting their agenda on radio interviews, news articles or town hall meetings, promoting their plans to the public benefit.

I will not vote for any of these disruptive politicians and I hope you agree. These recording are an affront to the voters’ intelligence. No more negative messages, please!

Sincerely a faithful, interested and intelligent voter!

Glad we have caller ID that comes up on the TV screen (if we're watching). Anything that's an 800 number or Citizens for...we don't bother answering. What I really hate are those that come over day and fill up our answering machine. Wish we could get rid of our land line.

Let's tie a plank to one end or the other of N. 4th St. at the place where there once was a bridge and have the politicos who make annoying phone calls walk said plank.

Good one tooten! I let one have it last night. It was a political survey, the young man on the phone couldn't tell me who had hired his firm to conduct the survey, nor did he have a good command of the English language. After telling him I felt was a very poor practice, that I wouldn't answer his questions unless I knew who was asking, and that he could tell his supervisor to stick their whole call protocol where the sun doesn't shine for calling during dinner hours. I'm guessing our number is now deleted from that program.

So far I have gotten mostly robo calls and most of them from Koch brothers/Americans For Prosperity/Tea Party promoters. Only one live call so far and that a push poll from a republican assembly candidate. And only one mailer so far whereas two years ago I received eleven McCain/Palin mailers in three days.

If it's a live call tell them you have a crazy schedule and ask them for their home phone number so you can call them back. Tell em you'll be calling about midnite or 1:00 o'clock!
