Remember war mothers

Postby Tomahawk Leader » Wed Nov 26, 2008 9:47 am

A letter in the Nov. 25 Tomahawk Leader:

To the Leader:

The article remembering our veterans brought back many memories to me, as I went to high school with both Emerson Seavey and Howard Ball. They served their country well. After reading the articles, I thought we should also remember our many war mothers.

My mother, Mrs. Ernest Bauer of Tomahawk, had four sons in the Army Air Corps in World War II. She received a citation and letter from the War Department in Washington, D.C., for having four sons in the war. On the day the war ended her and my dad and some other people were riding on the fire truck up and down the streets of Tomahawk. Many other mothers had sons and daughters in the service and I hope we remember them.

I am the only one of my family of five boys and one girl still living. I am 86 years old and have worked and lived in Milwaukee for 60 years, but still have our old homestead in the town of Bradley.

Norman E. Bauer
