The following is a Letter to the Editor in the Feb. 23, 2010, Tomahawk Leader. There also is a story in this week's issue of the Leader about the decision to cut down the tree and how a portion of its truck will serve as a bit of history. The newspaper is available at newsstands or by calling 715-453-2151. There is also an Online Edition available by subscription by going to www.tomahawkleader.com.
The letter states:
We are really going to miss that majestic white pine tree that set the stage for our local waterski show. We heard they cut it down for the ski tournament.
Whoever made the decision to cut it down should not make any more decisions. Such logic would have us clear cut the trees in Bradley Park for it would be easier to walk through the park without all those trees in the way.

Re: Majestic tree gone
It may be sad to see the tree gone but I can see the reason for it and it makes a lot of sense.
I would suggest that you go out in the spring and plant a new tree to take it's place so it will always be remembered and there will be a tree there for another 100 years.

Re: Majestic tree gone
I am happy to announce that we will be planting a tree in the spring (pending approval from the parks department). The new tree will be placed in location away from the shoreline so it can live a long and uninterrupted life. I wonder if we can get the Leader to come down and take some pictures of the event

Re: Majestic tree gone
The tree was a beautiful backdrop to many pictures we've taken over the years. The Leader would be happy to cover the planting of a new tree. Just keep us posted regarding the specifics. The same goes if you create a timepiece out of a portion of the truck and pinpoint important dates in Tomahawk history using the rings. Sounds like something special.
