MUSKY NUTZ COME UP BIG FOR TOMAHAWK DIVE TEAM: Some of the anglers and individuals taking part in the 10th annual Musky Nutz Tony Mayer Memorial musky tournament gathered for a check presentation at the conclusion of the contest held on Lake Mohawksin July 12. A record amount of money was raised from the tournament, which generated a $1,850 donation to the Tomahawk Fire Department Search and Rescue Dive Team. Unfortunately rescue efforts were not successful when Tony Mayer accidentally drowned on Mohawksin a decade ago, but Beetle Nyberg, who represented the department and took part in the tourney, said hopefully someday the dive team will make a difference and help another family avoid the tragedy the Mayer family had to endure. Words cannot say enough how appreciative we are, Beetle said. Tonys brother, John Mayer, said it was very rewarding to take a family tragedy and turn it into an honor that pays tribute to his brothers life. Wally Thomzik won the tournament with a 39-inch fish that was caught and released at around 9 a.m. As is the tournaments tradition, Thomzik will be tasked with the honor of deciding what lake and what non-profit organization will benefit from next years contest.
