HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS DONATE: In an effort to continually improve the quality of care in the Northwoods, the volunteers at Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital recently donated $1,000 to the Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation to assist with the purchase of an additional Lucas 2™ automated chest compression device for the emergency medical services (EMS) department. The automatic CPR device enhances blood fl ow and helps provide a steady supply of oxygen to the heart and brain while a person is in cardiac arrest. This device removes the need for emergency medical technicians (EMTs), nurses or providers to perform manual chest compressions, which can be both diffi cult and tiring. The Lucas 2™ device provides 100 percent correct compression and decompression times, replacing the need to rotate CPR rescuers every two minutes. By doing this, the device frees up rescuers so they can focus on other life-saving tasks. It is powered by a rechargeable battery that can last between 30 to 45 minutes. The device can be housed in an ambulance or the hospital for easy transfer to a cardiac arrest situation. Pictured are Valorey Eineichner, Ann Morits, Caryol DeBels, Clarice Krueger, Gloria White, Sally Metz and Kim Baltus; back, Jessie Bolder, Carol Swan, Terry Higgins, Gregg Albert and Jennifer Frank.
