Our Staff & Contact Information
Larry M. Tobin
Co-Publisher
larry@tomahawkleader.com
When Larry entered Marquette University to study writing, little did he dream he would ever own a newspaper. Career twists took him to public relations, politics and lobbying for the Wisconsin Newspaper Assn. before publishing a newspaper with wife, Kathy. He is a past president of the state newspaper association he once worked for. While writing consumes little of his time at the Leader, he has won state and national recognition in recent years for editorials and features. He still dreams of becoming a published novelist.
Kathy Tobin
Co-Publisher/Editor
kathy@tomahawkleader.com
Kathy grew up in a newspaper family and earned her Journalism degree from UW-Madison. She served as editor of two Madison suburb newspapers for five years before she and husband, Larry, first ventured into the business on their own. The couple purchased the Tomahawk Leader in 1982. Human interest features and photography are her favorite newspaper "assignments." As a small business owner, much of her time is spent tending to other day-to-day details, however. Kathy has received local recognition for community service, and won several state and national newspaper awards.
Jed Buelow
Reporter
jbuelow@tomahawkleader.com
Jed graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2004 with majors in English and Communications. Before moving to Tomahawk, he lived in Sheboygan County, where he worked at The Sheboygan Falls as news editor. He moved to Tomahawk because he enjoys the small-town atmosphere and the many outdoor activities available in the area. His duties at the Leader include covering city government and writing news and feature stories. Jed's hobbies are reading novels and poetry, and spending as much time as possible on the water, drifting flies and chasing flags.
Tom Colstad
Sports/Outdoors Reporter
sports@tomahawkleader.com
A UW-Madison graduate, Tom Colstad moved to the Tomahawk area in 1973 with his wife, Sara. He taught high school science and coached football and freshman boys' basketball. Since 1996, Tom has devoted his time to training retrievers, building recurve bows, painting wildlife art and bow hunting. Now he balances sports/outdoor/Fun Time writing with his other interests.
Traci Saindon
Advertising Consultant
sales@tomahawkleader.com
Traci moved to Tomahawk in 2000 with her husband, Mike, and two sons, Tyler and Nick. Although initially new to newspaper sales, she arrived with 20-plus years of sales experience. "I look forward to this new challenge in my career," she said. Traci enjoys meeting with regular customers and actually loves "cold calls," so don't be surprised to be greeted by her smile someday soon. Hobbies include watching her boys play hockey, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling and reading mystery novels.
Dorene Tyczynski
Creative Dept.
Dorene Tyczynski's primary duties are typesetting, with the particular expertise and accuracy required for deciphering government notices such as tax deeds and ballots. Dorene also does proofreading and fills in at the front desk when needed. She's quick with a smile and a friendly word. Dorene also enjoys hunting and fishing.
Patti Ward
Front Office
Patti and her husband, Jim, moved from Chicago Heights, Ill., to Tomahawk in January 1998. She graduated from Hammond Business College, Hammond, Ind., and has served as office manager at several different business venues for more than 30 years. Patti is an avid reader, book club member, gardener, and is active as a mentor in Kinship of Tomahawk. She is the mother of two, and grandmother of two. She enjoys helping serve people at our front desk and on the phone.
Alice Gray
Circulation
Alice Gray wears many hats at the Tomahawk Leader. Her primary responsibility is circulation, which involves everything from keeping our subscriber list up-to-date to supervising the back room crew on Mondays as they do the weekly mailing. Alice also works directly with customers and does proofreading.
Kerry Tobin
Webmaster/Computers
webmaster@leaderpro.com
Our webmaster, Kerry Tobin, maintains the computer network that's so critical to our newspaper operation. He designed our web page at age 18, immediately enjoying national recognition when the new Internet Edition won honors through the National Newspaper Association. A 1997 graduate of Tomahawk High School and a 2002 graduate of UW-Eau Claire, Kerry's full-time job involves working out of Appleton in the IT department as a Telecommunications Analyst for Gannett Newspaper Group's 10 Wisconsin newspapers. His outside interests include snowmobiling and mountain biking.
