Almira ‘Tootie’ Conant

Almira “Tootie” Conant, age 98, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2019 under the care of Ministry Hospice.

Tootie was born on March 25, 1921 in Tomahawk to Gustave and Anna (Buschke) Heller. She was married to Herbert Conant on Aug. 2, 1947 in Tomahawk. He preceded her in death in 2004. Tootie was an elementary school teacher for many years in Lincoln and Oneida County rural schools. She loved gardening and in recent years, her passion was baking cookies for anyone dear to her. Tootie is a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Tootie is survived by her children –Brian (Robbi Ratkovich) Conant of Waukesha and Sandra (Gordie) Johnson of Inver Grove Heights, MN; former daughter-in-law – Jean Brigham; two grandchildren – B.J. Conant & Erin Conant; two step grandchildren – Kirk Johnson & Lynn Perkins; three step great grandchildren – Ashley, Tony and Tawnya; and 4 step great great grandchildren – Triston, Jake, Abel and Talon. Tootie is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, especially the Sauers, Schlisings, Millers and her longtime caregiver and friend – Sheila Jach.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband – Herbert and great granddaughter – Alana Miller.

The Funeral Service for Almira “Tootie” Conant took place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor Stephen Gillet officiated. Visitation took place from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in the spring.
