Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Feb. 3, 2020

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Feb. 3:

A Merrill man, 21, was cited after a traffic stop Sunday morning in the Town of Merrill. A deputy observed the man’s vehicle traveling at 20 MPH over the speed limit as it traveled on Hillside Drive at 12:40 a.m.. The driver was cited for speeding and a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

A Merrill man, 29, an inmate in the Lincoln County Jail, will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office on a felony charge of battery by prisoner. A corrections officer reported Sunday morning that the inmate struck him in the head. On Friday, the same inmate was referred on a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property after he punched a video visitation monitor, causing damage.

Six people reported striking deer last week. On Sunday, an eagle was found near the roadway at State Rd. 17 and County Rd. J in Bloomville. The bird appeared to have been struck by a vehicle and was suffering from a broken wing. A deputy assisted, and the bird was collected and turned over to representatives from Wild Instinct’s wildlife rehab in Rhinelander.
