Al Overhaug

Al Overhaug, age 71, of Tomahawk, passed away at his home on Feb. 16, 2020 surrounded by his family and under the care of Ministry-Ascension Home Hospice.

Al was born on March 5, 1948 in DeKalb, IL. He was born to Henry & Alta (Minnie) Overhaug. Al was first married to Janice (Jim) Cleary, later married to Deb Pettit and currently married to Georgie Crass. Al was a geography middle school teacher in for 33 years, before retiring from Tomahawk Middle School in 2003. Throughout his working career, Al was a coach of various sports – football, basketball, baseball, track and wrestling. In 2013, he was inducted into the Hatchet Athletic Hall of Fame for all of his coaching accomplishments and his dedication to the youth of Tomahawk. He was very involved with the Tomahawk community and with his church – Grace Lutheran Church. He volunteered with the Tomahawk Food Pantry, Neighbors in Need, Holden Village & took many trips with Habitat for Humanity to El Salvador & Education & More in Guatemala. Al was also taught spin classes at the Fit Factory, was a member of Tomahawk Booster Club, former member of the Tomahawk Jaycees, worked with Christian Appalachian Project and also did mission work with the Grace Lutheran Church in Lekubu, South Africa. Al delivered meals to the Tomahawk community for Meals on Wheels, he enjoyed bringing communion to shut-ins and loved helping with the Church Ladies Diner. Al had celebrated 28 years of sobriety and was very helpful with the AA in the Tomahawk community.

Al is survived by his wife – Georgie Crass of Tomahawk; children – Amy Overhaug of Tomahawk, Bethany Overhaug of Minneapolis, Sara (Jim) Nikolai of Indiana, Derik (Sarah) Overhaug of Tomahawk, Laurel (Kurt) Reinke of Tomahawk and Tim Crass of Rhinelander. He is further survived by his mom – Alta Rollins of Aurora, IL; brother – Rick (Ruth) Overhaug of IL; sister – Carin (Bill) Cooper of Arizona; 10 grandchildren – Keegan, Caleb, Brittany, Ches, Rebekah, Eli, Mason, Serena, Savannah & Melody; and one great-grandchild – Brayden Allan.

The Funeral Service for Al Overhaug will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk. Pastor Susan Christian and Pastor Gary Brandenburg will officiate. Visitation will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the Krueger Family Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church on 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.
