PLAYING BIG: She might not be the biggest or tallest player on the court, but Emily Maki does a nice job elevating her shot over a pair Butternut defenders to score in the non-conference game.

TOMAHAWK – The Lady Hatchet hoopsters will finish up a hectic finish to the regular season as they travel to Rhinelander this Friday, Feb. 21 to take on the Hodags in a GNC doubleheader before getting ready to take part in the WIAA playoffs against an opponent yet to be determined.

Their busy run to the end of the season started last Tuesday as they traveled to Antigo to take on the Red Robins in Great Northern Conference tilt and fell by a score 58-23.

Rebounding from the conference loss, Tomahawk looked to score their second victory of the season as Florence came to town for a non-conference showdown Friday. The Lady Hatchets did a nice job hanging with the Bobcats (9-10, 4-5) and trailed just 16-22 heading into the break.

“We did a nice job scoring from inside the first half,” stated Hatchet head coach Garth Gerstenberger. “We just couldn’t hit any outside shots to loosen up their zone in the second.”

A big part of that inside shooting came from Hatchet sophomore Gracie Barnett as she led Tomahawk in scoring with 16 points. Emily Maki and Haley Liebelt each scored 4 and Sydney Barnett had 3 and Addison Bartz finished with 2 points in the loss to Florence.

Tomahawk was back in action Monday as they traveled to Chequamegon looking for their second win of the season in the non-conference tilt. Tuesday, they hosted Rib Lake at Hatchet Fieldhouse for another non-conference tilt before finishing out the regular season this Friday, Feb. 21 in Rhinelander for a GNC doubleheader that begins at 6 p.m.
