FOR THE TOMAHAWK LEADER

TOMAHAWK – St. Mary’s School Principal Rita Lee provided information on the school’s schedule, meals for students, and more on Monday, March 16. The school currently plans to reopen on April 6, “but we will abide by directives from the state if they suggest otherwise,” she said.

Lee said staff worked last weekend to prepare packets of homework for students and information for the week of Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20.

“We are doing a combination of traditional school homework along with some online resources,” Lee stated. “We understand that some of our families don’t have great internet access or access to electronic devices for their children, so we tried hard to make it reasonable combination of the two so that no child is left without learning opportunities. Our goal was that the activities being sent home were high quality assignments that fit into and complement our curriculum.”

Lee noted Spring Break remains scheduled “homework-free” as if school had been in session.

“Then we will have packets for each of them for the following week (March 30 through April 3) so that they can continue their studies,” she said.

Meals for students

Lee said the school had reached out to families last weekend to learn which families needed help providing breakfast and lunch for their children.

“The meals will be a combination of simple but healthy ‘grab and go’ style foods along with ingredients for additional meals that can be prepared at home throughout the week,” Lee stated.

The school would be checking in with those families over the break to assess their needs, Lee noted.
