Betty Becker Norman, age 90, of Tomahawk, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020, at Riverview Health Services, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. She was married to Maurice Norman on March 17, 1951; he survives.

Betty was born on June 25, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to the late William and Alice (Waters) Becker. She attended New Trier High School and later went on to study communications/speech at Lake Forest College, graduating in 1951. While there, Betty was very involved in campus activities. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, a cheerleader, a member of the theatre department, and took part in many radio plays on the campus radio station. Maurice and Betty later moved to Crystal Lake, Ill., where they raised their two sons, Steven and Jeffrey. Betty taught at Hussman Elementary School in Crystal Lake and often spoke of her love for her third graders.

Family has always been a priority to Betty and she loved spending time with her husband, sons, daughter-in-law, and was a beloved grandmother to her grandchildren, Tom, Lisa, Katie, and Jacob. Her grandchildren remember many happy hours putting on puppet shows, having tea parties, playing car mechanic, swimming, and painting with Betty. Betty was an accomplished portrait artist. She and her husband retired up to the Northwoods of Tomahawk, an area they had long loved and vacationed at. While living in Tomahawk, Betty and Maurie wrote and illustrated three children’s books together.

Betty is survived by her Husband, Maurice Norman, of Tomahawk; two Sons, Steven Norman, of Conover, Wis., and Jeffrey (Karen) Norman, of Apple River, Ill.; three Grandchildren, Tom Norman, of Fox Lake, Ill., Lisa Norman, of Woodstock, Il., Katherine Norman, of Madison, and Jacob Norman, also of Madison. She is further survived by two Great-Granddaughters, Hailey and Emily Rose.

Betty was preceded in death by her Parents, William and Alice; and her Sister, Dorothy Romer.

Betty loved loons her whole life. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to “Loon Watch” part of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute at Northland College. www.northland.edu/centers/soei/loonwatch/give2loonwatch/.

A Celebration of Life for Betty Norman will take place at a later date. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory of Tomahawk is assisting the family. Family and friends are encouraged to leave online condolences at generationsfuneral.com.
