Rosalia ‘Sally’ T. Hammond

Rosalia “Sally” T. Hammond, age 85, of the Town of Woodboro, Wis., passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Sally was born in Random Lake, Wis., on Oct. 14, 1934, to the late Peter and Johanna (Kirst) Kies. She was married to Gerald “Jerry” Hammond on June 28, 1958; he passed away on Valentine’s Day in 2006.

Sally was a graduate of Random Lake High School. After graduation, she moved to Milwaukee, where she worked as a phone operator. She soon met her husband, Jerry, through the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). The CYO was a big part of their life, and where they met many lifelong friends. Sally and Jerry later moved to Glendale, Wis., spending 20 years there before making Tomahawk their home. They purchased the Sportsland Bar in 1986 and retired in the late ‘90s. After retirement, they moved to the Manson Lake area, where Sally worked part time at the Logging Museum in Rhinelander. Sally was a dedicated mother and homemaker and enjoyed gardening, boating, camping, and fishing. She especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Sally was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomahawk.

Survivors include her six sons: Daniel (Debbie) Hammond, of Grand Forks, N.D., Michael (Susan) Hammond, of Waukesha, Wis., Timothy (Heather) Hammond, of Watertown, Wis., Patrick (Roni) Hammond, of Burkburnett, Tex., Jeffrey Hammond (Erin), of Hampton, Va., and Kevin Hammond, of Madison; her three daughters: Kathy Knight, of Watertown, Christine Hammond, of Oconomowoc, Wis., and Laura Hammond (Edward Almasy), of Madison; her sister, Yvonne VanTreeck, of Grafton, Wis.; and her brothers, Roy Kies of Greenfield, Wis., and Robert Kies, of Cedarburg, Wis. Sally is further survived by her sixteen grandchildren: Nick, Brittany, Aaron, Caroline, Amanda, Lauren, Morgan, Ashley, Danielle, Madeline, Matthew, Joseph, Trisha, Brenda, Renee, Noah, and Abbie, and her five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Johanna, her husband Jerry, her sister Ellen (George) Binsfield, her sister-in-law Mary Ann Kies, and her brother-in-law Marvin Van Treeck.

Memorial Services for Rosalia “Sally” Hammond will be held at a later date, to be announced on sallyhammond.net. Interment will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
