Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: May 25, 2020 and June 1, 2020

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, May 25:

A man, 29, was cited on Friday morning after a crash in the Town of Scott. A caller reported following a vehicle driving recklessly on County Rd. K and then watched it leave the road and crash at County Rd. Q. The driver admitted to using methamphetamine prior to the crash and a syringe was found in the vehicle. The man was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Deputies, along with firefighters from the Town of Russell and the DNR, responded to a wildland fire in the Town of Birch. According to the report, an ATV caught on fire, which quickly spread to the woods. Firefighters were able to quickly control the fire.

Two Tomahawk men were injured after a UTV rollover early late Friday night in the Town of Bradley. The men were riding on Graf Rd. when their machine rolled over. Tomahawk EMS responded to the scene but the men refused transport.

Deputies arrested a Gleason man, 26, on Saturday afternoon after responding to a disturbance in the Town of Russell. The man was taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct, felony bail jumping and violating the terms of his probation.

A Merrill girl, 15, was injured after a UTV crash Sunday morning in the Town of Russell. According to the Rec. Deputy, several UTVs were traveling on a trail off of Town Hall Rd. when one UTV struck the rear of another, causing the girl to be ejected. She suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital in Merrill. The Town of Russell Fire Department and First Responders assisted at the scene.

A Merrill man, 52, was arrested Sunday afternoon after an incident in the City of Merrill. A deputy was operating his marked patrol unit on Main St. when he heard an intoxicated male screaming obscenities at him. When the deputy and a Merrill Police Officer stopped to talk to the man, he continued to yell obscenities, which led him to be taken into custody for disorderly conduct. The suspect refused to comply with efforts to take him into custody and a taser unit was deployed. The man was also charged with making threats to a law enforcement officer.

A Merrill man, 63, was injured after a UTV crash Sunday evening in the Town of Harrison. Deputies, along with Tomahawk EMS and Fire Department, responded to the area of Parrish Rd., where a UTV had left the trail and struck a tree. The victim was removed from the woods by the Tomahawk Fire Department off road rescue vehicle and then flown by Spirit 1 to the Trauma Center at Aspirus. Alcohol is considered a contributing factor in the crash.

One man was killed in a single-motorcycle crash in the Town of Bradley. At 10:22 a.m., a passing motorist spotted a motorcycle off the roadway at State Rd. 107 and County Rd. S. Deputies, along with Troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol as well as Tomahawk EMS and Fire Department, all responded to the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul Proulx. The crash was believed to have happened Sunday evening or early Monday morning. The investigation is being handled by the Wisconsin State Patrol, which will release the name. This is the fourth traffic fatality in Lincoln County in 2020.

Two people were injured after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in the Town of Schley. The crash was reported at 10:39 a.m. at State Rd. 17 and County Rd. C. Two Michigan residents were transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital by ambulances from Merrill and Aspirus. The driver of a second vehicle, resident of Sagola, Mich., 61, was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. The Town of Russell Fire Department and First Responders assisted at the scene.

Four people reported striking deer this past week. This past Monday morning, a Milwaukee man struck and killed an eagle on US Hwy. 51 near Lincoln Drive. On Friday evening, a Verona man struck and killed a bear on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd H.

 

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, June 1:

Lincoln County Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on County Rd. A near Bill France Way in the Town of Bradley on Monday morning. The first vehicle struck a deer and lost control, striking the second vehicle. No injuries were reported.

A Tomahawk man, 58, was cited for travelling 92 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on County Rd. JJ near Rock Falls Dr. in the Town of Rock Falls Monday afternoon.

Three people received minor injuries following a one-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon. One of the passengers was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital.

A Merrill man, 34, was cited for operating after revocation fourth offense following a traffic stop on County Rd. K near Creek Ave. in the Town of Scott Tuesday night.

A Merrill woman, 31, learned she was the victim of a forgery/ fraud. When she attempted to make a withdrawal from her bank account, she was advised her account was overdrawn by $500. In reviewing recent transactions, she learned her debit card had nearly $800 charged to it in which she did not do. The investigation continues in this matter.

A Merrill man, 39, was arrested for possession of marijuana third offense and possession of drug paraphernalia following a report of suspicious activity in the Town of Schley on Saturday evening.

A La Crosse man, 20, was cited for traveling 100 MPH in a 65 MPH zone, along with operating without a license and operating a vehicle without insurance following a traffic stop on USH 51 near Lincoln Dr. in the Town of Merrill Saturday night.

Fourteen people reported striking deer last week. A bear was struck and killed on USH 8 near Honey Rd. on Thursday morning.
