Dear Reader,

Patrick Wood

Patrick Wood

I want to update you on changes that are coming.

As of June 15th, the Leader office will be closed for good and most operations will be run out of our Rhinelander Star Journal office. Our phones will continue to be answered, and local sales reps will continue to call on Tomahawk area businesses as normal. Jalen Maki will continue in the role of Editor of the paper.

The decision to close our office in Tomahawk is an unfortunate necessity. Due to large declines in advertising revenue, the Leader and Leader Extra have lost money for the entire time we have owned them, and we have to find a way to save money in order to continue publishing.

When it comes right down to it, this is a matter of simple economics. A paid circulation newspaper needs subscribers and advertisers to be viable, and a free paper also needs advertisers. When revenues decline, costs have to be reduced. That’s what we are doing: reducing costs so we can continue to publish.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we make this difficult move.
