Marilyn J. Powers, age 57, of Tomahawk, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Marshfield Medical Clinic in Marshfield, Wis. Marilyn was born on Aug. 6, 1962, in Sparta, Mich., to the late John and Margaret (Kline) Schweitzer. She was married to Lance Powers on Oct. 16, 1982; he survives.

Marilyn grew up on the family farm in Sparta and was a 1980 graduate of Sparta High School. She later moved to Tomahawk, where she and Lance lovingly raised their three children. Marilyn was a long-time employee and familiar face of the Tomahawk School District, where she was always smiling and eager to help wherever needed. Marilyn took great pride volunteering with Special Olympics. She enjoyed camping, cooking, rock picking, hiking in the Porcupine Mountains, crafting, and watching wildlife. Marilyn was the love of Lance’s life, her children’s biggest fan, the world’s best grandma to Madison, and the ultimate “dog mom.” She left this world far too early and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Lance Powers, of Tomahawk; two sons, Lance Powers, of Tomahawk, and Kyle (Julie) Powers, of Tomahawk; one daughter, Kayla (Damian) Powers-Dryja, of Suamico, Wis.; one granddaughter, Madison Powers; one brother, Joe (Chris) Schweitzer, of Sparta; one sister, Denise (Bruce) Helmer, of Sparta; her father and mother-in-law, Anthony and Judy Powers; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Blaine (Sheri) Powers, and Hokie (Jeff) Renn.

Marilyn is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret; and her brothers, Stephen, Jon, and Craig.

A private family service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020. The family received friends for visitation, which was open to the public, on Monday, Aug. 3, 2020, at Generations Funeral Home, Tomahawk, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and again on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The visitation was held adhering to social distancing guidelines. Face coverings were encouraged.

Generations Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family. View Marilyn’s obituary and leave online condolences at www.generationsfuneral.com.
