School District of Tomahawk offering meals via drive-thru service

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The School District of Tomahawk and Taher Food Service on Sept. 8 will begin offering meals to go via drive-thru for enrolled students of virtual learning and for enrolled MS/HS students on remote learning days.

“Breakfast and lunches will be available for any student enrolled in the district,” said Food Service Director Dustin Tessmer. “Parents or students may pick up meals, but a student ID or lunch PIN number will be required. The meals will be charged to your child(ren’s) lunch account at the paid, free or reduced rate depending on your eligibility. This is a change from last year’s drive thru service.”

The meal will follow USDA guidelines for school meals, and will include fruit, vegetables and milk, along with a sandwich or breakfast item. Ingredients will be packaged separately to maintain quality and freshness, with the intent that they may be consumed the day of, or the following day if they are stored under refrigeration.

Drive-thru pickup will take place using the driveway in the front entrance to Tomahawk Middle School in the mornings on the days offered. Families can choose the time that best meets their needs. Pickup times are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on normally scheduled days.

“We will offer two meals per child each day, (one breakfast and one lunch),” Tessmer said. “We will utilize the driveway in the front of The Tomahawk Middle School and have a representative there to distribute the meals as you pull through. There is no preordering necessary. Please have the student’s ID card or student’s lunch PIN readily available. If you have any special dietary needs, pre-ordering will be necessary.”
