TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchets boys’ basketball team hosted Marion at Tomahawk Field House on Monday, Dec. 14 and cruised to a 68 to 35 victory.

After taking the lead early, the Hatchets never looked back, said head coach Jacob Jarvensivu.

Marion played 23 zone on defense, and the Hatchets passed and shot very well against it. Tomahawk took a 36 to 16 lead into halftime and held the Mustangs to 25% shooting from the field in the first half, compared to the Hatchets’ 46%.

The second half was more of the same as the Hatchets went on a 13 to 2 run to start the half on their way to sealing the big win.

Drew Bolder lead the Hatchets with 25 points and seven assists. Payton Bunce added 11 points and eight rebounds.

“It was nice to see the boys pull ahead and stay ahead,” Jarvensivu stated. “This team has a habit of keeping games close when we should pull away, so it was nice to have some breathing room for a change. I thought we handled their zone well and played pretty good defense for most of the game.”

Tomahawk hosted Crandon on Tuesday, Dec. 22 for their final game before winter break. They’re set to take the court again on Monday, Jan. 4, when the Goodman-Pembine Patriots come to Tomahawk.
