Charlie Berg, age 84, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary Hospital in Rhinelander.

Charlie was born on Oct. 8, 1936 in Wausau to Alfred and Olive (Braun) Berg. He grew up on a farm in the Edgar area and attended Edgar Schools. He married Patricia Witucki on Oct. 20, 1962. He spent six years in the National Guard during the Berlin Crisis with the 32nd Red Arrow Division. Charlie was a cheesemaker, working for Pauly Cheese in Edgar, Marathon Cheese, Foremost Farms, and Kraft Foods in Milan. Following retirement, Charlie and Pat purchased the Windmill Ice Cream Shoppe on Lake Nokomis and have owned and operated it since 1993. He was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed singing in the choirs. He also co-organized the Farmers Breakfasts at St. Mary. He was a Packer, Brewer, Badger, and Edgar Wildcat fan. He also enjoyed gardening and an occasional trip to the casino.

Charlie is survived by his wife – Pat Berg of Tomahawk; children – Russell (Kristine) Berg; Rodney (Kay) Berg; and Ryan (Linda) Berg all of Tomahawk; seven siblings, Marian King, Green Bay; Beatrice Timm, Birnamwood; Ruth Rogan, Ringle; Leonard (Judy) Berg, Edgar; Michael (Beth) Berg, Minnesota; Paul (Debbie) Berg, Edgar; and Pauline (Jerry) Krautkramer, Marathon. Charlie is further survived by nine grandchildren, Nicholas (Shelby) Berg, Nathaniel Berg, Katrina Berg, Annie Jarvensivu, Brad (Allison) Jarvensivu, Bethany Berg, Meagan Berg, Amber Prust, and Ashley Berg; and two great grandsons, Tyson Berg and Karter VanStrydonk.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Charlie Berg was held on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020, 11 a.m. from St. Mary Catholic Church. The family received friends at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11 a.m. Burial followed in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Poniatowski, Wis.

Memorials are appreciated to St. Mary Choir.
