FLORENCE – The Tomahawk Hatchet girls’ basketball team traveled to Florence on Thursday, Dec. 17 and fell by a score 48 to 41.

Head coach Dean Borcherding noted that Florence held a 22-point lead over Tomahawk, the Hatchets were able to cut it down to a five-point lead.

“Too many fouls and points off turnovers are killing us,” he said.

Gracie Barnett had 13 points and eight rebounds. Maddie Marino scored eight, and Tiana Gerstenberger scored seven. Haley Liebelt had nine rebounds, and Ella Genelin had three assists.

The Lady Hatchets hosted Northland Pines at the Tomahawk Field House on Saturday, Dec. 19 and were defeated by their conference rivals 58 to 44.

“Again we went down by 19 and cut the deficit to 10, but we are getting in too big a hole,” Borcherding said.

Gracie Barnett had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Haley Liebelt had had points and 14 rebounds, and Addison Bartz hit two three-pointers on Senior Day, Borcherding added.

The Lady Hatchets are set to travel to Antigo on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, before hitting the road again on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, to take on White Lake.
