Donald G. Halverson, age 86, of Tomahawk, passed away at his home on Jan. 4, 2021 under the care of Aspirus Hospice and surrounded by his family.

Don was born on March 20, 1934 in Iola, Wis., to Hans and Alma (Severson) Halverson. Don served our country with the United States Army. He was active for two years and also served in the reserves for 18 years. Don was married to Carolyn Rice on Sept. 26, 1959 in Northland, Wis. Together they had two children. Don worked as a meat cutter for many years. He worked at IGA in Iola and Stevens Point, the Veterans Home in King and also 26 years at Lincoln Hills before retiring July 8, 1996. He was an active member of American Legion Post 93 and served many years on the local Honor Guard. In Sept. 2012, Don went on the Honor Flight. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. He also was involved with Boy Scouts and Tomahawk Fishing Unlimited.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years – Carolyn Halverson of Tomahawk, and his children – Daniel (Dawn) Halverson of Eagle River and Dana Halverson of Stoughton. He is further survived by his brother – Hans (Joann) Halverson of Milwaukee, three grandchildren – Mara Jane, David and Danielle and brother-in-law – Dennis (Janie) Jole of Canon City, Colo.

The Funeral Service with Military Honors for Don Halverson took place at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 at Krueger Family Funeral Home, Tomahawk. Pastor Susan Christian officiated. Visitation took place from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in the springtime.

Memorials are appreciated to Grace Lutheran Church, Tomahawk Backpack Program or Aspirus Hospice.
