ANTIGO – The Tomahawk Hatchet girls’ basketball team kicked off the new year with two roads games and came away with one win and one loss.

On Tuesday, Jan. 5, the team traveled to Antigo, and fell by a score of 57 to 26.

“This game was on me,” said head coach Dean Borcherding.”We were down by nine at half, but we didn’t have the conditioning coming out of Christmas Break. Their offensive rebounding and second chance points in the 2nd half prevented any comeback.”

Borcherding noted that Gracie Barnett had 11 points in the matchup.

Following their loss in Antigo, the Lady Hatchets were able to bounce back in a big way in their road game against White Lake on Thursday, Jan. 7, where they routed their opponents 54 to 10.

“Everyone played good defense tonight, but I thought Emily Maki, Maddie Marino and Ava Dragosh had exceptional games,” Borcherding said after the game. “Our girls came out with a purpose and a sense of pride tonight. It was very nice to see smiles again.”

Borcherding noted the scoring was balanced throughout the lineup. Gracie Barnett had points, Haley Liebelt scored eight points, and Addison Bartz scored nine.

The Lady Hatchets will travel to Northland Pines o Friday, Jan. 16, for a game that starts at 7:15 p.m. They’ll kick off next week’s action with a game in Medford on Monday, Jan. 18.
