LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD) on Saturday, March 20 reported an incident in which 100 dozes of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were wasted.

According to a release, when LCHD was reviewing a batch of the vaccine on Friday, March 19, a vial of the vaccine “was not properly prepared” and the batch was unable to be used.

LCHD said it wanted to be “open and transparent” about the incident.

“We know how important each vaccine is to our community,” stated Lincoln County Health Officer Shelley Hersil. “It is just as important to our staff. Our staff is heartbroken over this error. We have worked very hard to not have any vaccine wasted and will continue to do so. We have taken steps to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

LCHD noted that the incident was reported to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS).

Over 1,800 doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been administered in Lincoln County, LCHD stated.
