Tomahawk wins first annual Merrill-Hawk challenge at Strikers

TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk took on Merrill in the first annual Merrill-Hawk Challenge at Strikers Tomahawk Bowl on Saturday, March 27 and won by a score of 8 to 6.
The Tomahawk bowlers represented Strikers Tomahawk Bowl, while the Merrill bowlers competed on behalf of Les & Jim’s Lincoln Lanes.
Three competitions, all scratch, took place. Each competition was worth a pre-determined number of points, with 14 total points able to be won.
The first event was a best-of-five Baker team match, worth two points and featuring two four-person teams. Teams selected which member bowled the 9th and 10th frames.
The second competition, best-of-five Baker doubles, was worth four points and featured four two-person teams.
The final event was best-of-three singles, worth eight points.
In the event of a 7 to 7 tie, total pin fall in the singles matches would’ve determined the winner.
Team matches were split, with Tomahawk and Merrill each winning one. In double matches, Tomahawk won three, while Merrill won one. The two cities split the singles matches, each taking four.
Tomahawk team members were Justin Haenel (Captain), Nicole Brown, Randy White, Tim Webber, Kevin Craft, Steve Kahle, Doug Drake, and Chad Grube.
The Merrill team was made up of Tyler Catlin (Captain), Scott Smith, Mark Bares, Shannah Mootz, Jason Kressel, Ron McAllister, Steve Albert, and Ray Albert.
Merrill will host the 2022 Merrill-Hawk Challenge at a date to be determined.
