Joan M. Jirschele Hanson, 92, passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2021. She was born in Marshfield, Wis., and lived most of her life in Indianapolis, Ind., where she relocated with her loving husband of 71 years, Tim Hanson. They spent lovely summers in Tomahawk. She was a longtime member of Nativity Catholic Church and volunteered at St. Paul Hermitage, Beech Grove, Ind., gift shop for many years. Joan earned her Master’s Degree in Education and was a teacher for the MSD of Warren Township for 30 years.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Tim. Together, they have four sons, Thomas, Jerry, Joseph, Timothy; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They also have many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Visitation took place at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral and mass services were held at Nativity Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis, on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. Joan’s final resting place will be at Calvary Mausoleum, 435 W. Troy, Indianapolis; however, there will be no graveside service.
