Associated Clergy of Tomahawk launches ‘Community Connections,’ introduces coordinator

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Associated Clergy of Tomahawk (A.C.T.) on Wednesday, Sept. 8 announced the launch of a new community service and introduced its coordinator.

Jessica (Thomas) Oates will be at the helm of Community Connections, a service that will focus on networking and informing current and new Tomahawk residents about local churches and non-profits, as well as social, economic and community resources that are available, a release from A.C.T. explained.

A.C.T. said Oates will work to connect current area residents with services and volunteer opportunities within churches and organizations in the community.

She will also be able to help new residents learn about community services and volunteer opportunities that are available, “while also informing new residents of churches within the community that would match their denomination affiliation and/or needs as an individual or family,” the release said.

Oates is a graduate of Tomahawk High School and has been serving with Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in Canada and Scotland for over ten years on and off, and throughout the last two decades.

“Her heart is for churches and communities to work together whenever and wherever possible,” A.C.T. stated. “Working with YWAM has given her vast experience, since she worked with all churches, not just one denomination.”

A.C.T. noted that Oates’ most recent role with YWAM was as head of personnel and staff development, overseeing the overall health and well-being of the staff, as well as serving on the leadership team of their base location.

Oates’ first goal is to “meet with as many business leaders, organization leaders, community leaders and church pastors to interview them regarding what resources and services they offer to current and new residents in the community,” A.C.T. stated, adding that Oates will be reaching out local churches, organizations and businesses regarding services or volunteer needs.
