Hatchet eSports team holds awards ceremony; McGovern named All-State, Anderson All-Conference

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet eSports team recently wrapped up its second season with an awards ceremony honoring players for their contributions to the team.

Hatchets honored at the award ceremony included Sam Kurth, Smash Bros. Most Improved; Tim Herman, Smash Bros Most Valuable; Zach Suchomel, Captain and Leadership Award; Jack McGovern, Overwatch Most Valuable and Captain; Mathew Walbeck, Overwatch Most Improved; and Dylan Guillaume, Moderator Award.

When all was said and done, the Overwatch squad finished the season with a 4-4 record and advanced to the second round of playoffs after beating Marshall. Their season ended against a tough BSMS team, which advanced to state.

The Smash team ended the season with a 1-7 record.

“All were new players to the game, and we had two eighth graders helping us out on a weekly rotation to finish the season,” noted coach Paula Norman.

Norman said Jack McGovern earned a spot on the Wisconsin High School eSports Association (WIHSEA) All-State team for his role as the “Jack of All Trades,” while Jacob Anderson was named to the the All-Conference team for his support role.
