LINCOLN COUNTY – Earlier this month, the Lincoln County Health Department (LCHD) announced that it is expanding opportunities for adults to get the flu shot this fall.
LCHD in a release said that it is holding an Early Bird Drive-Thru Clinic for Seniors (age 65 and up) with complimentary coffee and donuts.
Walk-In Wednesday Clinics are also back, as well as in-home shots for Lincoln County residents who are homebound, LCHD noted.
LCHD said it has high-dose flu (Fluzone High Dose), regular flu (Fluzone) and COVID-19 (Moderna) vaccines available.
“Ask to see if you are eligible for pneumonia and Tdap vaccines,” LCHD added.
The Early Bird Senior Drive-Thru Clinic for adults age 65 and older will be held at the Merrill Festival Grounds on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Enter on N. Sales St. by the Merrill Enrichment Center and follow the signs. Only high-dose and regular flu shots will be available. Supplies are limited. No appointments are needed. Complimentary coffee and donuts will be offered.
Weekly Walk-in Wednesday Clinics will be held at LCHD, 607 N. Sales St. in Merrill on each Wednesday from Sept. 23 through Nov. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
“Help us kick off our flu clinic season by joining us for coffee and donuts at our Sept. 23 clinic,” LCHD said.
In-home visits are available for Lincoln County adults age 65 and older who are homebound or generally unable to leave home without difficulty. Individuals must meet eligibility criteria. Contact LCHD at 715-536-0307 for information about eligibility.
LCHD said it accepts the following insurance plans: Aspirus Health Plan, United Health, Security Health Plan, Medicare Part B and Railroad Medicare. LCHD is unable to bill any other Medicare Advantage Plans, private insurance (ex: Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, etc.) or Medical Assistance. An insurance card is requested.
An annual flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months and older, according to LCHD.
“It’s the best way to protect you and your loved ones from getting the flu,” LCHD stated. “It’s important to remember that it takes up to two weeks for the flu vaccine to take full effect.”
For more information on obtaining a flu shot, contact LCHD at 715-536-0307 or LCHealth@co.lincoln.wi.us.
LCHD noted that it will be sharing information on student flu clinic opportunities in the near future.
