NORTHERN WISCONSIN – A choir composed of singers from several Northwoods churches is gearing up to present its fall concerts.
The Community Ecumenical Choir is made up of about 30 men and women from several churches in Lincoln, Price and Taylor counties. The choir was started at First Lutheran Church in Prentice about 45 years ago, and in the following decades, volunteer vocalists from other northern Wisconsin churches have joined.
The choir prepares two concerts each year – one in the spring, and another in the fall, with multiple performances in each season. Practices are held once a week for eight weeks and prior to performances.
Free-will offerings at the concerts cover minimal expenses and support donations to area charities and programs.
This year’s fall concert, entitled “Wonderful Words of Life,” features a selection of widely-known and loved hymns of the past, a release from the choir said.
Performances will be held at The Rock Church, 1775 Kaphaem Rd., Tomahawk, on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m.; and Ogema Baptist Church, W5091 State Hwy. 86, Ogema, on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend the concerts.
Sheryl Barnet is this fall’s director, and the choir is accompanied by pianists Dawn Heikkinen and Dolly Hadden.
Free-will offerings at the concerts will support Kinship of Tomahawk and the Spirit American Legion scholarship program.
Fellowship and refreshments will follow each concert.
“These concerts are truly an enjoyable and inspirational experience, as well as a benefit to good causes in our local communities,” the release stated.
All interested vocalists are invited to join the Community Ecumenical Choir.
