MERRILL – The Friends of Council Grounds State Park (FoCGSP) received 33 entries in this year’s photo contest, with 25 coming from Merrill photographers and the remaining eight submitted from other Wisconsin communities.
Nine Friends group members met on Tuesday, Aug. 11, to narrow the field to 12 finalists – three photos in each of the four categories.
Eight of the finalists are from Merrill. The other four come from Madison, Kronenwetter, Eau Claire and Little Chute.
“There were many great photos again this year – it made it hard to choose,” said Laurie Nikolai-Svetlik of the FoCGSP.
The finalist photos were posted on Friday, Aug. 15 to the group’s Facebook page, where voting is now open. Vote by liking one photo in each of the four categories. Liking more than one photo in a category will disqualify all of those votes.
Voters can also cast a ballot by emailing cgphotos@hotmail.com.
A poster of the finalists is also on display for viewing and voting at the park office and at the T.B. Scott Free Library during regular visitor hours.
Voting closes on Monday, Aug. 31.
Four first-place winners will each receive a 12-month Wisconsin resident park vehicle admission sticker, and second-place winners will receive a $15 merchandise certificate for the Council Grounds Park store.
Once the contest wraps up, all 33 entries will be posted to Facebook for the public to view.
