LINCOLN COUNTY – Last month, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office honored four employees with awards for outstanding service.

Jail Administrator Nicholas Hoeft was presented with the Sheriff’s Recognition Award for his selflessness and dedication during a critical incident involving the Dive Team in July 2025, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Lieutenant Thomas Tollefson was presented with the Lifesaving Award for his response to a medical emergency on Dec. 2, 2025. The Sheriff’s Office said Tollefson responded to a welfare check in the City of Merrill and found the patient not breathing and without a pulse.

“Lt. Tollefson began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “Lt. Tollefson’s actions contributed to saving the life of the patient.”

The Sheriff’s Office said Corrections Officer Julie Remington was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for her continuous dedication, particularly for 2025.

“Remington worked diligently in the implementation and refinement of the Lincoln County Jail’s Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Program,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.

Deputy Mariah Wegmueller was recognized as Deputy of the Year for her exceptional service during 2025.

“Wegmueller consistently demonstrates our agency’s core values (Service to the Community, Integrity and Professionalism),” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office congratulated each award recipient.

“Your actions and dedication reflect great credit upon yourselves, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, and the law enforcement community,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
