TOWN OF HAZELHURST – A Harshaw man was seriously injured in a UTV vs. vehicle collision in the Town of Hazelhurst this past weekend.
According to a release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, June 20, at approximately 11 p.m., dispatch was notified of the crash, which occurred at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 51 and Oneida St.
During the initial investigation, it was learned that the UTV, being operated by James R. Bowman, 69, of Harshaw, failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection and struck the side of a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling southbound on U.S. Hwy. 51. The pickup was being operated by Nathan E. Birkholz, 31, of Mosinee.
Bowman was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The passenger in the pickup, Tia R. Gaulke, 28, of Mosinee, sustained minor injuries.
Birkholz was uninjured.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Minocqua Police Department, Woodruff Police Department, Hazelhurst Fire Department and Oneida County Ambulance Medic-5 assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office and the DNR are completing the accident report.
No further information was released as of press time on Monday, June 22.
