MERRILL – Cloudy skies and threats of rain didn’t stop the Merrill area community from turning out for the annual Lincoln County June Dairy Month Breakfast held Sunday, June 14, at the Merrill Area Recreation Complex (MARC).
Volunteers worked together to prepare food on site and to serve a breakfast that included buttermilk and potato pancakes with maple syrup from local producers, cheesy scrambled eggs, maple pork sausage links from Geiss Meat Service, cheese curds from Mullins, white and chocolate milk, cranberry and orange juice, coffee and ice cream – all the Wisconsin dairy products area residents have come to expect from a Lincoln County June Dairy Breakfast, as well as other products produced locally.
The event celebrates Lincoln County’s dairy industry and honors the farm families behind it.
Both children and adults enjoyed interacting with the animals at Grampa’s Farm Petting Zoo outside – from bunnies and ducks to baby lambs and goats, a cow and calves, and even a pony. Horse-drawn wagon rides were available, along with the opportunity to check out some farm machinery and tractors on the grounds.
Inside, there were also raffles, informational booths, and live music by Hunter Dux and Travis Burrow.
The breakfast was sponsored by the Lincoln County Dairy Promotion group, Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and the Lincoln County Farm Bureau, and a portion of proceeds from the breakfast will benefit the Merrill FFA Alumni and Lincoln County Farm Bureau scholarship funds.
