BRANTWOOD – The Knox Creek Heritage Center (KCHC) in Brantwood will host one of its annual fundraising events this month.
KCHC, founded in 1995 in an effort to preserve the heritage of the pioneers that settled the Northwoods, holds four annual fundraisers each year, including the “Midsummer Cookout.”
This year’s Midsummer Cookout will be held at KCHC, N4517 W. Knox Rd., Brantwood, on Saturday, July 25. The grounds will open at 11 a.m., allowing attendees to experience KCHC’s historic buildings and artifacts.
Homemade Finnish bread and pulla, a cardamom braid, will be available for purchase. Grilled burgers, brats and hot dogs will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m., and entertainment will be provided by Jeff Calhoun.
KCHC President Kevin Wollemann said the group is looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen, as well as with serving and clean-up after the event.
“We are also seeking individuals and families to become part of KCHC,” Wollemann stated. “By becoming a member, you can help maintain our unique historical site.”
Wollemann said several major projects were recently completed, including the repainting and residing of the Main House and Keto House.
The KCHC site features nine buildings and artifacts representing several ethnic groups in southeastern Price County. Antique logging, farming and blacksmith equipment, school and church memorabilia, photos, documents and more pieces of history dating back as far as the late 1800s are displayed at the Heritage Center and will be available to view during the event.
