Posted

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Aug. 17:

On 08-10-2026 a deputy on patrol observed a motorcycle traveling at 91 MPH in a 55 MPH zone on CTH Q and CTH K in the Town of Scott. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and after stopping the vehicle, the driver, a Wausau man, pulled a handgun from a holster. The deputy ordered the man to put the gun down and step away from the gun, which he complied. The man later stated that he had been told before that if he is ever stopped by the police he should disarm himself. The man was educated that if in the future he is stopped again, that he should not touch the gun and instead for safety notify the officer of the presence of the weapon. He was cited for traffic violations and released.

On 08-14-2026 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle for traveling 82 MPH in a 45 MPH zone on Joe Snow Rd. near Mill Rd. in the Town of Scott. When the deputy made contact with the driver, a Merrill woman, they noticed signs of impairment. The deputy asked the woman if she would perform some sobriety tests, which she agreed to do. As a result of those tests, she was placed under arrest for a first offense of OWI. She was later released to a responsible party.

On 08-16-2026 deputies were sent to the area of CTH K and Lake Pesobic Rd. in the Town of Merrill for a male subject who was found lying in the road with possible injuries. It was further reported that the victim was not moving. As deputies were responding, the caller advised that the male subject had begun to move and had a head injury that was bleeding. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with both the initial caller and the victim. It was determined that while walking along the west side of CTH K, the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling S/B on CTH K. The victim was unable to provide any details of the suspect vehicle, and had very little recollection of the incident. Deputies were able to locate evidence at the scene that they will use to try and identify the suspect. The victim was transported emergent by Merrill FD Ambulance to Aspirus Wausau Hospital with serious unknown injuries. A Flock camera located in the area possibly could have captured and helped identify the suspect vehicle, but unfortunately had been previously vandalized, and was not working. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating the suspect vehicle. The vehicle is possibly a truck and will have a damaged outside side rearview mirror, possibly the passenger side. It is asked that anyone who may have knowledge of this event or who may have been driving through the area at the time of the call (between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.) and may have seen something, please call the Sheriff’s Office. While deputies were investigating the incident, a second male was located down in the ditch line. It was later determined that this individual was not involved in the crash, and this was an unrelated intoxicated pedestrian matter.

Deputies conducted 29 traffic stops and 35 security checks.

Deputies responded to six car vs. deer crashes.
