As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, June 23:

On 06/21/2026 a deputy on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle on Taylor St. near State St. in the City of Merrill for a speeding violation. Then, as the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver sped off, turning onto N. State St., resulting in a pursuit. The pursuit only went a short distance before the driver pulled over and stopped. The deputy identified the driver as a Spring Valley man. The man was placed under arrest for vehicle operator flee/elude officer. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked in.

On 06/21/2026 deputies were sent to the area of South Branch Rd. and Natzke Rd. in the Town of Corning for a one-car crash with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver, a Merrill woman. The woman reported she swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle then entered the ditch, where it came to final rest. As the deputy spoke with the woman, they noticed signs of impairment. She was asked to perform some sobriety tests, which she agreed to do. As a result of those tests, the woman was placed under arrest for a first offense of OWI. She received minor injuries in the crash.

Deputies conducted 34 traffic stops and 20 security checks.

Deputies responded to 13 car vs. deer crashes.
