On 10/21/2025 a deputy on patrol on STH 17 near Lecks Ln. in the Town of Schley observed a vehicle weaving in the road, crossing both the centerline and the right edge line of its designated lane of travel. The deputy stopped the vehicle for that violation. Once stopped, the deputy made contact with the driver, a Merrill woman, 54. When making contact, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. A second deputy trained as a drug recognition expert arrived on scene and conducted sobriety tests on the driver. As a result of those tests, the woman was placed under arrest for a first offense of OWI with a restricted controlled substance and operating while suspended. She was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where she was left with corrections staff.

On 10/25/2025 deputies were sent to an address on CTH G in the Town of Pine River for an emergency situation. The owners of the property were cleaning the property, getting it ready for an estate sale, when they located what they believed to be a WWII Japanese hand grenade. When deputies arrived on scene, they observed the object and agreed that it appeared to be a live hand grenade. LISO made contact with MNSO and requested the assistance of their bomb team. MNSO arrived on scene, examined the object and determined it to be a grenade, but without powder. They reported that it did appear to have a live fuse. The bomb team did safely remove the object from property and disposed of it. As a reminder, in the event you find suspected explosive items on your property, do not handle the items and call law enforcement as soon as possible.
