TOWN OF NOKOMIS – Earlier this month, the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department held its annual "Mary's Dinner" awards banquet.
Each year, the department holds Mary’s Dinner, named after Mary Muckerheide, a medical first responder on the department from 1993 until her passing in 2002. Muckerheide left an endowment fund to be used for an annual banquet for member socialization and recognition.
This year’s event was held at The Loop Hole Bar, 2243 County Hwy. L, Tomahawk, on Saturday, May 2.
The nominees for the 2025 Member of the Year were Kaylynn Sandry, Nancy Voelker and Dakota Jelinek. The award ultimately went to Voelker.
The department said Voelker volunteers on several committees and participates in all fundraising events, in addition to responding to most calls and attending meetings and training sessions.
“Outside of the department, she volunteers at blood drives and at Camp American Legion,” the department stated. “She has been a firefighter and emergency medical responder on our department for 20 years.”
The department’s Booster of the Year award went to Bette Stillman.
“Bette has been a long time supporter of the department, helping at fundraisers and other events,” the department said. “She was a raffle warrior for our hugely successful Chili Contest, soliciting raffle prizes over the course of four months last year and this year. Bette is also a Town of Nokomis Supervisor and runs the town's food pantry. Thanks for all you do, Bette.”
The department also thanked Jackie and Brian, along with the Loop Hole staff, for their generosity and a great meal and venue.
