Night Owls, Islands of Brilliance supported by STAR Foundation contributions

Posted

TOMAHAWK – The Support Tomahawk Area Resources (STAR) Foundation recently awarded grants to a pair of local organizations.

The STAR Foundation acts as a community chest for businesses and individuals, making charitable grants to community groups, clubs and nonprofit organizations that contribute to the health and vitality of the Tomahawk area, according to the Foundation’s website.

The Knight Owls Snowmobile Club and Islands of Brilliance each received a contribution from the STAR Foundation.

Knight Owls Snowmobile Club

A $2,000.00 grant awarded to the Knight Owls Snowmobile Club will assist with the purchase of new equipment to help maintain and improve local snowmobile trails.

“The Knight Owls play a vital role in keeping our trail system safe, accessible and enjoyable for both residents and visitors,” the STAR Foundation said. “Their volunteers dedicate countless hours to grooming, maintenance and stewardship, helping support winter tourism and outdoor recreation in our Northwoods community.”

The STAR Foundation said it appreciates the club’s participation in this year’s STAR Splash fundraiser.

”Thanks to strong community support, additional funds raised will further benefit the Knight Owls and their trail efforts,” the STAR Foundation stated. “Thank you to the Knight Owls for all you do to keep Tomahawk moving all winter long.”

Islands of Brilliance

The STAR Foundation awarded a $750.00 grant to Islands of Brilliance (IOB).

“We’re proud to support IOB and their Tomahawk Fellowship Program, which provides creative, technology-based workshops for autistic young adults in our community,” the STAR Foundation said. “Meeting twice a month at the Tomahawk Public Library, participants build confidence, connect with peers and develop valuable skills through art and digital creativity.”

The STAR Foundation noted that beyond personal growth, IOB participants also give back, creating cards for a local group home and decorating coffee sleeves to brighten customers’ days.

“Programs like IOB are especially meaningful in rural communities where inclusive spaces and resources for neurodivergent young adults are limited,” the STAR Foundation stated. “Thank you to Kendra and Deb for your dedication to making Tomahawk a more connected, supportive community.”
