Nokomis FD, DNR partner on incident management team training

Posted

TOWN OF NOKOMIS – On Wednesday, April 8, the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department teamed up with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for incident management team training.

The department said DNR staff from around the state were on hand to set up an incident command post and work a simulated large wildland fire in various Incident Command System roles, including incident command, operations, safety, logistics, planning, finance, law enforcement, structure protection, public information, communications and more.

“Our area is categorized as a high risk region for wildland fires, due to low road density and high fuel sources,” the department stated. “We practice these types of fire situations through live, real-time simulations to constantly improve processes and become more proficient, just in case.”

The DNR works closely with local fire departments as part of a larger public safety team, the department said, adding that those interested in volunteering may contact the department.
